OK, data professional. You’re a member of the Professional Association for SQL Server, better know as PASS (you ARE a member, right?). You’ve gone to at least one SQL Saturday event in the past to learn about SQL Server for free. You may have gone to the SQL Summit in the past, maybe the new BI Summit. You go to your local SQL User Group meetings, at least occasionally. You’ve gotten quite a bit from PASS in the past, whether you realize it or not. Now it’s time for you to give some of that back.
You’ve probably already seen the email. Elections to fill three seats on the Board of Directors will be held later this week, beginning on September 25th and ending September 30th. Two seats are regional (one US/Canada, one EMEA) and one is open across regions. They will all be for the 2014-15 term.
There is a fantastic slate of seven candidates for these three spots. I’ve been reading up on them here and all are extremely qualified. Each has given a lot of their time and effort to help the SQL community. I wish all the luck to all of them, I just sorry that we can only pick three.
Now this is where you come in.
Go the election page on the PASS website. Read up on the candidates to see what their accomplishments are and what their vision is for the future of PASS. Go on Twitter and follow #passvotes to see a live stream the candidates held yesterday. Register for one of the town hall meetings today and ask them any questions you have. There’s even a forum where you can see how each candidate feels about topics brought up by others, or raise your own concerns.
And most importantly, when your ballot comes, vote.
